An illustration commissioned for Café de Chamarel, the only coffee grown and roasted in Mauritius, cultivated on the volcanic hills of Chamarel — the same region famous for its seven-coloured earth dunes. The brief was to capture the topography of the place in a single continuous landscape: the waterfall, the lush reserve, the ripening coffee cherries, and the mineral swirl of the coloured earth itself.
Rendered in ink and watercolour, the artwork was produced for a limited-edition metal tin sold in local supermarkets and exported to European markets — packaging designed to carry a sense of place across an ocean. Because the best way to sell a coffee grown in one extraordinary spot on Earth is to put that spot in someone’s hands.
