A series of ink illustrations commissioned by the Intercontinental Slavery Museum, depicting the lived reality of enslaved people in Mauritius during the 18th and 19th centuries. The drawings reconstruct daily life across the island — the harbour at Port Louis where ships arrived carrying human cargo, the markets and auctions where people were sold, the brutal conditions of forced labour, but also the moments of resilience that persisted in spite of it all: gatherings, dance, music, games, community. Each illustration was researched and drawn to serve as both historical testimony and educational material — work that doesn’t look away, because looking away is how history gets forgotten.
